Recent research suggests that, despite the environmental benefits and enrichment that often come with adoption, adoptees still struggle at school at rates higher than non-adopted children. We will be discussing a 2018 U.S. research article on adopted children's experiences with school to help us understand what these challenges may be and what can be done to mitigate these challenges and support adoptive families.

Jenny Wiseman, an adult adoptee and educator, will be leading us in a discussion looking at:

- Are adopted students more likely to have trouble in school?
- What sorts of health problems are adoptees likely to have and how do these impact their schooling?

This event is open to all parents and caregivers, waiting and prospective parents, adult adoptees, professionals and students.

  • Please arrive to check-in at 12:20; meeting is from 12:30 to 2:00 pm
  • Seating is limited, registration and payment are required in advance.
  • FREE FOR MEMBERS
  • 95HKD for non-members or lapsed members (or click here to join/renew your membership and attend this event for FREE).
  • You are welcome to bring your own lunch and beverage.

Participants can also choose to obtain a Certificate of Attendance for participation in this event. We hope this certificate may support an adoption application by demonstrating an ongoing commitment to learning about the needs of parenting a child through adoption.
