Monthly Discussion: 12:20 - 1:30pm
Parents and professionals want children to develop empathy, as we know this aspect of emotional intelligence is important for healthy relational functioning. Modeling empathy and having a list of suggestions for building empathy is a great start to cultivating it in children, but developing this skill can be a lifelong process. In the simplest form, emphatic individuals are aware of their own feelings and able to connect with the feelings in others. But, rarely is anything simple. Moreover, it is important for a child to feel the difference that empathy makes when received before we can expect a child to be able to give empathy to others.
Join Trauma Educator, Deborah Holcombe, as we discuss the developmental stages of empathy, the five facets of empathy, and practical tips on developing empathy in children and teens and ourselves.
