Are children struggling because of special educational needs (SEN) or other reasons?
-- Supporting children and families affected by prenatal alcohol/ drug exposure
Organizer: The Hong Kong Council of Social Service
Supporting organization: Adoptive Families of Hong Kong
Children's physical, emotional, and behavioral issues may have arisen from many factors, one of which could be SEN. However, drug and substance exposure before and during pregnancy (including recreational, illicit, some prescription drugs, as well as alcohol and smoking) can have a significant impact on the developing fetus and can also affect physical development and cause long term developmental, emotional, and behavioral problems. Without considering this perspective, parents and professionals may misjudge the situation and fail to provide the most appropriate treatment and support. This webinar aims to increase parents' and professionals' awareness of these issues and share experiences in supporting children and families.
