Great news! We have a brand new host team!

The Waiting and Newly Adoptive Families' (WNAF) Group is an informal gathering aiming to bring together those who are currently in the process of adoption, who are exploring the possibility of adoption, as well as those who have adopted within nine months. There will be sharing on what one can be doing to prepare while applying, waiting, and before adoption is finalised. It is a great opportunity to ask questions to our host team who have been through the process, and to others thinking through similar issues, in a safe environment. The gathering is very interactive and there is plenty of time for questions and answers.

Catherine Durant and her husband are proud parents to their two adopted sons. She began her involvement with AFHK through its information and support for “waiting parents” and then she supported AFHK as its Administrative Assistant before joining the Steering Committee. She has long had a personal interest in foster care and adoption and has learned much over the years through relationships with adoptees, children in foster care and other adoptive parents.

Lucas Renzi was an expatriate in Hong Kong 2012-2022. He is the primary carer of three beautiful children (two biological, and one adopted). Lucas heard about AFHK whilst living in Singapore and participated in monthly workshops when he moved to Hong Kong. He assists the adoption community through facilitating conversations between members and in an Australian Expatriate Facebook group, presenting AFHK's Australian visa webinar, and with his web and technical knowledge.

Catherine and Lucas are both currently serving on AFHK's Steering Committee. For more information about them, please visit its website: https://afhk.org.hk/committee

WNAF events are open to :
  • members and non-members of AFHK
  • families who are in the process of adoption or considering adoption
  • families who have completed the approval process and are waiting to be matched
Participants may opt to receive a Certificate of Attendance which will note your participation and the topic of this meeting. We hope this may support an adoption or foster application by demonstrating an ongoing commitment to learning about the needs of parenting a child through adoption or fostering. The certificate will cost HKD30 and be emailed directly to you after you attend the meeting.

For information on considering adoption in Hong Kong go to this link in our resources section on our website:

• This meeting is FREE FOR CURRENT AFHK MEMBERS
• HKD150 for non-members or lapsed members (or pay for membership on registration and attend this event for FREE). Payment is required in advance.

The WNAF team welcomes those registering to send any questions they have about adoption in advance.  This will help the team plan for this and future events and for creating and sharing resources and information that will better inform and prepare you.  Please send your questions to outreach@afhk.org.hk.  All questions will be acknowledged but we may not have the capacity to reply over email.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email us at outreach@afhk.org.hk

As a volunteer organisation, we rely on our members and donors support to help us organise and offer events such as these. Please consider to donate here:
