Who Belongs to AFHK?

Anyone touched by adoption or belonging to the adoption constellation can become a member including:

  • Families formed through various types of adoption: local/international, foster care, step-parent, and kinship adoption,

  • Adoptive and foster families living in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong and in other parts of Asia,

  • Families who have who have adopted both domestically and internationally,

  • Dual and single-parent families with children of all ages and stages,

  • Families considering adoption and those waiting to be matched with a child,

  • Families who have experience early adversity or trauma,

  • Birth family members,

  • Adult adopted persons,

  • Professionals who work with the adoption community, including psychologists, social workers, counsellors, and education and health professionals,

  • Extended family members including siblings, grandparents and others,

  • Friends and supporters of adoption and adoptive families.

What does AFHK do?

Social Gatherings

Events for all the family with a focus on activities and games for all to participate in.
Adoption themed film nights,
Occasional social events including dinners or lunches

Educational and Informational Events

Workshops, seminars and events for professionals who work with and support adoptive families and adoptees.
Panel discussions incorporating various perspectives of the adoption constellation including birth parents, adoptive parents and adopted persons.
Podcast discussions with adoption experts, researchers, and authors.
Recent news on adoption-related concerns as well as relevant articles shared through social media and newsletters.

Peer-Based Support and Advice

Monthly Discussion meetings on adoption, parenting, and other relevant topics
Parent Support Meetings for parents to discuss issues and gain support
Waiting Family Gatherings
Public Awareness
Presentations for community organisations and schools on adoption-related issues
Advocacy on behalf of all who are touched by adoption
Positive representation of the adoption community through media interviews and articles


All AFHK events, meetings and programs are open to members and non members. Members receive priority placing and preferential pricing. Most AFHK activities are conducted in English, although we are beginning to offer events in Cantonese including a Waiting Families support group. An adoption support group for Cantonese speakers, the Happy Parents Association, can be contacted at GPO Box 72313, Kowloon.
